Winter Storm Warning In Effect

WASHINGTON -- The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning through Monday morning.
Forecasters say 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected to blanket our area, starting early Sunday afternoon. The snow is expected to mix with sleet by Sunday evening.
Snow is expected to be heavy at times through the early morning hours on Monday.Patches of light freezing drizzle are also expected to linger on Monday.

About 170 trucks planned to hit the roads.VDOT said the trucks will concentrate their efforts mostly on the main roads especially if the snowfall is light.Road crews in Maryland also are getting ready. Preparations were in full swing Friday afternoon at a public works facility in Forestville, Md. Salt and sand trucks were loaded up.Officials said hundreds of pieces of equipment will be on the roads to deal with the storm. After clearing the snow, getting rid of any left over ice will be a top priority.

Road Crews Prepare For Weather
The Department of Public works said it will have about 140 pieces of equipment clearing any snow that accumulates. The trucks were expected to start operating around 8 p.m. Friday.Even before the first snow falls, crews will be pre-treating roadways. Work crews will be concentrating their efforts on the main roadways, bridges, and overpasses before moving their equipment into local neighborhoods.Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation spent Friday afternoon loading up their trucks with sand and salt.
