WASHINGTON -- Washington is the country's seventh most walkable city, according to WalkScore.com's national rankings. The study recognized the high number of neighborhoods in the D.C. area with stores, restaurants, services, transit options, schools, housing choices and green spaces, which allow residents to drive less, the Coalition For Smarter Growth said in a statement on the rankings.Walkable neighborhoods, like those in D.C. and in surrounding communities including Alexandria, Silver Spring, Arlington, Reston, and Bethesda, mean less energy consumption and fewer carbon emissions, the coalition said.
The country's most walkable city is San Francisco, followed by New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Seattle.Click here to view the rankings.Click here to view maps of D.C.'s most walkable neighborhoods.
