"What we're going to do is position ourselves for the future and HDTV," said NBC4 production manager Ric Cornish. The current grid for the lighting system in Studio B will be stripped completely and renovated. The current lighting system was installed in the 1980s, and while it worked well, it was time for an upgrade, Cornish said."We decided to upgrade now before we have a problem," Cornish said. "We want to position ourselves so we can give the viewers the best product we can give them."Cornish said the studio is rated at 230 kilowatts, which is enough power to supply about eight to 12 homes."We're not talking about a small job here," he said. The project is expected to take several weeks, so viewers will see the News4 anchors hosting newscasts from the temporary studio until the new lighting system is ready. But when all the work is completed, Cornish said he hopes viewers will notice an on-air improvement.
