WASHINGTON -- The District race for mayor got its fifth official candidate Wednesday.Michael Brown declared himself a candidate for mayor, and News4 has learned that former Mayor Marion Barry may run for chairman of the D.C. Council in next year's election.Brown is the son of former Commerce Secretary Ron Brown. He's also a lobbyist and the former vice chairman of the D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission.
The 40-year-old candidate will join an already crowded list of candidates seeking the Democratic nomination, including D.C. Council members Linda Cropp, Vincent Orange and Adrian Fenty. Businesswoman Marie Johns is also in the running.Current Mayor Anthony Williams has not said whether he'll seek a third term.Councilmembers Jack Evans and Kathy Patterson also are expected to run for chairman now that incumbent Cropp is running for mayor.
