Poll: Support For Sales Tax Hike May Be Slipping
Referendum Losing Ground Among Fairfax County Voters
Support for the sales tax referendum in northern Virginia may be slipping, NEWS4 reports.
If approved, the referendum would raise the state sales tax by half a penny to raise money for transportation projects in northern Virginia.
According to a new Mason-Dixon poll conducted last week, 49 percent -- less than half of voters polled -- now say they are in favor of the sales tax hike. Meanwhile, 43 percent say they'll vote against it and 8 percent said they're undecided.
In September, 52 percent were in support of the measure.
Voters in Arlington County and the city of Alexandria continue to show strong support for the sales tax hike. But, in Fairfax County, many voters are also said to be for the measure; however, support has dropped in the last month.
Most voters in Prince William and Loudoun counties continue to oppose the tax hike.
