ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- On Thursday in Prince George's County, a group of political leaders appeared with U.S. Rep. Ben Cardin urging the community to remember their traditional Democratic roots. Meanwhile in Annapolis, a coalition called Clergy for Steele said it is putting party labels aside to support Republican Michael Steele.A diverse group of Democrats and Republicans -- pastors who can influence congregations with thousands of members -- announced that it will personally endorse Steele for the U.S. Senate. It said it wants to support a candidate who upholds a moral standard.Special Section: Voter Resources
Steele signed a pledge that promotes an anti-poverty agenda in the Senate. He called it the Thurgood Marshall plan."This will hang on my office wall in the U.S. Senate to remind me of my commitment," he said.In Palmer Park, Prince George's County political, business and religious leaders urged voters to support Democratic candidate Cardin.
