Hamlin Pleads Guilty To Robbery, Murder

The man charged with killing a New York Times journalist pleaded guilty in the case on Wednesday.

Sixty-three-year-old David Rosenbaum was attacked as he walked near his home in Northwest Washington last January. Medical examiners said he had been beaten to death.

Michael Cleveland Hamlin, 24, (pictured left) pled guilty to second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

"We think it's important that Michael Hamlin has taken responsibility for what he's done. Of course, none of this is going to bring my brother back," said Marcus Rosenbaum, the victim's brother. "And we expect that Mr. Hamlin is going to have a long time in prison to think about what he's done. And we hope he will think about it as much as we're going to be thinking about my brother for the rest our lives."

Hamlin along with his cousin, Percy Jordan Jr., 42, (pictured right) allegedly robbed Rosenbaum. Officials said Hamlin also drove the getaway car from the scene.

Court papers show that Hamlin told investigators that Jordan beat Rosenbaum over the head with a metal pipe and Hamlin took his wallet.

After the incident, police released surveillance photos of a man they said used Rosenbaum's credit card at a local store.

Authorities said Hamlin was arrested after entering the Seventh District police station, located at 2455 Alabama Avenue, SE, to find out why a surveillance picture of him was on the television news.

Hamlin now faces up to 60 years in prison. Jordan has also been charged with murder.
