Police: Homeowner's Son Kills Suspect

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. -- Prince George's County police have released more information about a double-homicide that happened Wednesday night at a home in Fort Washington, Md.Police said officers went to the 13500 block of Piscataway Drive about 7:40 p.m. on a report of a breaking and entering.When officers arrived, they discovered two homicide victims and a man inside the house. Police said one victim was 59-year-old Patricia Caniglia, the female resident of the house, and the other was the apparent suspect of the breaking and entering and the person who shot and killed Caniglia.
Investigators said the suspect entered the home and confronted Caniglia. At some point, the suspect shot and killed Caniglia and then turned on her 24-year-old son, Antonio Caniglia, who was in another part of the house.Police said Caniglia's son shot and killed the suspect, who has yet to be identified."He hears a confrontation going on upstairs, and he calls police to let them know that something is going on, that there's an apparent (breaking and entering)," Lt. Terence Sheppard, of the Prince George's County Police Department, said.Caniglia's son was taken into custody by investigators, interviewed and later released. He was not charged.Police are still trying to determine whether the man Caniglia's son shot is known by the family or whether this was a random attack.The Caniglias have owned and operated the Mama Mia's Pizza Shop at the Pinefield Shopping Center in Waldorf for more than 26 years.The case is still under investigation, and anyone with any further information should call the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit at (301) 772-4925.
