WASHINGTON -- Athletes aren't the only ones in Torino, Italy, for the Winter Olympic games. Graduate students from George Washington University studying marketing and business also made the trip. The students are hoping to learn about the green, instead of bringing back the gold.Sports marketing professor Lisa Delpy put the field trip together.Since 1992, graduate students from the university have experienced a behind the scenes look at how the Olympics come together.
"I could potentially want to work for USSC or one of the International sports federations, so I think being able to meet some of the people that are there or just getting a better idea of how everything runs, might help me in the future," said one student. The students all have different focus points. Monday class time investigated the games sponsorship."I've been an athlete, pretty much, for as long as I can remember. And the Olympic games are pretty much the premier event for athletics in the world, so it's something that I've always wanted to go to. And since I'm involved with the sports management program here, it's a really good experience to see how sports are marketed," said another student.During the Torino Olympics the students will hear from organizers, marketing members, and tourism officials.
