WASHINGTON -- The 19th annual "Adoption Day In Court" was held at the D.C. Superior Court this Wednesday. The special event is held every year just before Thanksgiving.Thirty-one kids participated in this year's event, which celebrated the 411 adoptions made in the District this past year. Twenty-eight families were made official during the event. Some of them were made possible by News4's Wednesday's Child. At least four children who were once featured on Wednesday's Child were at the D.C. Superior Court for the celebration.
Slideshow Helen and Victor were placed with their adoptive family, the Hardys, in March of 2003. They were featured on News4 in December of 2002. The Hardys said they saw the children and fell in love with them.Cory, a kid featured on Wednesday's Child in the spring of 2004, said he was happy back then, but not nearly as happy as he is now.Cory said his new family includes a dog that he loves dearly and a dad who gives him all the attention every child deserves.A caring family also adopted 17-year-old Adam on this special day.Adam was a Wednesday's Child five years ago when he was 12. He says at 17, he finally has a family of his own and a large extended family too.One thing all of these kids have in common is that after the event is over, they all are happy to be going home for good.If you have room in your home and your heart for any of the many children still waiting for permanent adoptive homes, please call the News4 special adoption hot line. The number is 1-88-TO-ADOPT-ME.
