Rescue Squad On Same Call Aids Firefighters

STAFFORD, Va. -- Fire officials in Stafford County, Va., say three firefighters were injured Monday morning after their fire truck overturned as they were responding to a call.The driver of the truck lost control on Plantation Drive at about 5:30 a.m., Stafford County Sheriff Charles Jett said.The injured firefighters were helped by a rescue squad team that was also responding to the same call as the fire truck.
Two firefighters were taken by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital and another was taken by ambulance to Mary Washington Hospital. Roger Sutherland, assistant chief for Stafford County Fire and Rescue, said the firefighters' injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.Sutherland said the two firefighters were taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital were released. A third was still at Mary Washington Hospital Monday afternoon for observation. The firefighters names have not been released.The Stafford Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police are investigating the accident.Another rescue vehicle, which was ahead of the firetruck, was able to respond to the initial emergency call, authorities said.
