WASHINGTON -- The man who has admitted to killing a member of Mayor Tony Williams' cabinet will appear in court for sentencing Friday.William Parrott Jr. pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the March stabbing death of Wanda Alston. Alston was the mayor's special assistant for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender affairs. She was a Norfolk State University graduate from Newport News, Va.
Parrott could receive a maximum sentence of life in prison, although voluntary sentencing guidelines call for 12 to 24 years for second-degree murder if the defendant has no criminal background.Alston and Parrott lived two doors apart in Northwest, D.C. When he pleaded guilty in April, Parrott said he killed Alston while he was high on crack cocaine, marijuana and alcohol.
