83-Year-Old Vendor Released From Hospital

WASHINGTON -- It's been six days since an 83-year-old Foggy Bottom street vendor was robbed and beaten by a male attacker.Monday, the victim's daughter left her mother's side for the very first time, she said, in an exclusive interview with News4's Tony Dorsey.Because the victim is a critical witness in the police investigation into her attack, News4 is not revealing her identity.
News4 is also protecting her daughter's identity. The victim's daughter said she was devastated to see her mother's brutal attack, which was captured by a security camera."I'm lucky to have a mother, " the victim's daughter said.According to police, the attack happened at about 4:30 p.m. on May 3. The woman, who is a street vendor in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, was returning to her home at the Potomac Plaza Terraces.Her attacker was apparently waiting for her, police said.Following the attack, the victim was discovered by a friend who called for help, police said.Although the victim is in a lot of pain, her daughter said her mother is recovering and she'll undergo physical therapy.The victim's daughter said her mother plans to return to her vending location following her recovery, which is expected to take some time.The victim has been showered with flowers, cards and get-well wishes.
