WASHINGTON -- The suspect in last week's attack of an 83-year-old Foggy Bottom vendor appeared in court Monday.
According to court documents, 46-year-old James Dorsey confessed to beating the woman.Dorsey was arrested Saturday afternoon. He was found riding a bike and was picked up by police without incident.According to court documents, Dorsey has had numerous contacts with the law dating back to 1984 and has been charged 59 times. His record includes a felony conviction for assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor convictions for second-degree thefts and destruction of property.In 1997, Dorsey was charged with three vending violations and acquitted, according to court documents. Apparently he was once a vendor himself.The victim in the case is known as Grandma. She works near the Foggy Bottom Metro station.On May 3, she was hit and kicked by a man as she approached the loading dock of her apartment on 24th Street. Police said the man took about $300 from her.Police said tips from the public helped close the case.Dorsey was officially charged Monday afternoon. He is being held without bond.
