WASHINGTON -- Spotsylvania County, Va., is considering tougher penalties, following a fatal attack on a resident by three pit bull dogs.Last month, 82-year-old Dorothy Sullivan was fatally mauled in her yard. Authorities said three dogs belonging to a neighbor killed her and her small dog, Buttons.
The county is now considering a public nuisance ordinance exclusive to dogs. The new proposal would define nuisance dogs as those that chase vehicles, trespass or habitually run at large.Penalties could include euthanasia and a fine of up to $2,500.A public hearing on the proposed changes is set for May 10.
