WASHINGTON -- Two different pet owners left their dogs in hot cars this week, and one of those dogs died.
The Washington Humane Society is issuing new warnings as the weather gets warm, reminding everybody how deadly the heat can be inside an enclosed car.
In the parking lot of the East Potomac Golf Course this week, a mixed boxer was stuck in a hot car for at least one hour. One window was cracked open about one inch.A passerby noticed that something was wrong with the dog, and called the U.S. Park Police, who responded and took the dog out of the car. But the animal died shortly thereafter.The Washington Humane Society is investigating possible neglect charges against the dog's owner.The Humane Society rescued another dog from an overheated car in downtown Washington Thursday.The Humane Society is worried about this weekend, because a lot of people are going to be going out and enjoying the cherry blossoms. Officials say to be mindful when leaving pets in cars.
