Police Release ATM Pictures In Gruesome Murder Case
Detectives Search For Suspects
D.C. police released security camera images of two people who allegedly tried to use an ATM card belonging to one of two men whose badly decomposed bodies were found stuffed into the trunk of a car in June.
The bodies of Harvey Sumner, 58, of Temple Hills, Md., and James Harris, 65, of the District, were discovered June 7, in the 4600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southwest.
News4's Jackie Bensen reported detectives were puzzled to learn that the two men -- who had both been reported missing by their families -- apparently did not know each other.
"We're trying to make the link, the nexus between these two men. We have yet to make the connection as to what brought these two men together," said D.C. Police Sgt. Dave Jackson, of the Violent Crimes Division.Police said the two people captured by the security camera tried to use Sumner's ATM card at the Bank of Washington branch at 4675 South Capitol St., Southwest on May 23. That was one day after Sumner was last seen by family and friends.
Jackson said the man and woman made repeated attempts to withdraw money.Bensen reported the medical examiner has not been able to determine the cause of death since the bodies were badly decomposed. However, detectives strongly believe both men were murdered.
