WASHINGTON -- A woman from Bowie, Md., says she was humiliated by a Metro Transit Police officer over a candy bar.Stephanie Willett, a scientist who works at the Environmental Protection Agency, said she was finishing off a candy bar July 16 while riding down the escalator into Metro Center in downtown D.C.
Willett said a Metro Police officer spotted her and warned her not to eat once she got inside. However by the time Willett took the last bite, she said she had already passed through the fare-gates.The officer reportedly warned her a second time, and Willett told the officer to go fight some real crime.
At that point, she said the officer shoved her up against a wall, handcuffed her, searched her, and held her for three hours.A Metro spokeswoman said Willett was arrested because she ignored the warning.Willett was eventually released her to her husband that night, after she paid a $10 fine.
