WESTFIELDS, Va. -- The actual name of the machine is the spray injection patcher, but you can call it the "pothole killer."
Officials with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) say one road crew might be able to fill about 100 potholes on a good day, but the "pothole killer," which is currently being used in northern Virginia, can do twice that amount of work.
Experts say the new machine keeps asphalt at 150 degrees, which enables it to work any time of year. Traditional asphalt plants shut down for the winter.VDOT spokesman Todd Robson said, "It's a machine that's going to help with the safety of our traveling public."Right now Fairfax County officials are renting the machine from VDOT for $165 an hour, but they want to have a few machines of their own that they can use all the time.
