Taliban to be Brought in From Cold: Report

The U.S. is backing a plan that would lead to formal peace talks with the Taliban, according to a report. Ten years after ousting the group from control of Afghanistan, were they hosted Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida, the U.S. has approved a plan to let the Taliban set up a political office in Qatar and begin talks, according to the Times of London. A Western diplomatic source told the paper the office "will not be an embassy or a consulate, but a residence where they can be treated like a political party." Afghan officials are divided over the plan, with opponents saying it legitimizes terrorists.
