Police: Man Killed During Burglary Attempt

Woman Confronted At Home By Two Men

POSTED: 11:46 a.m. EST January 28, 2003
UPDATED: 11:47 a.m. EST January 28, 2003

Police in Anne Arundel County, Md., say a woman shot and killed one of two suspects who had entered her home early Tuesday morning.

Investigators said they were called to the 7700 block of Fox Court, in the Pasadena section of the county. Officers said a female resident of the home said two men had entered through an unlocked front door and confronted her while she was lying in bed.

Police said the woman reported that the suspects were armed with handguns and demanded cash and jewelry.

At some point during the confrontation, police said the woman reportedly retrieved a semiautomatic handgun from a dresser drawer and shot one of the suspects a number of times. Police said the suspect died at the scene. Officers said the other suspect fled.

Authorities have not identified the suspect who was killed, pending an autopsy, and the second suspect is described only as a black male.

Police said they are not releasing the identification of the woman involved in the incident.

No charges have been filed but the final determination of charges will be made by the State's Attorney's Office once the investigation is complete.
