County Exec. Reportedly Feels Losses Personally
POSTED: 7:48 a.m. EDT October 18, 2002
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Montgomery County, Md., Executive Doug Duncan has attended every funeral held so far for the victims of the Washington-area sniper, and he has two more this weekend.
Saturday, Duncan will join mourners in remembering Pascal Charlot. He's the District man who was shot and killed on a street corner two weeks ago.
Then, Duncan will travel to Pennsylvania to pay respects to the family of Dean Meyers, of Gaithersburg , Md. He was shot while pumping gas at a Manassas, Va., gas station last week.
Montgomery County Council President Steve Silverman said Duncan has taken it personally that the sniper began his murderous rage in Montgomery County.
Observers said Duncan is deftly walking the line of being a reassuring presence while avoiding charges of grandstanding or interfering with police efforts to find the killer.
