Sexual-Battery Suspect Extradited To Fairfax From S. Dakota

POSTED: 3:39 pm EDT July 14, 2008
UPDATED: 4:10 pm EDT July 14, 2008

A 27-year-old man accused of abduction and sexual battery was extradited to the city of Fairfax from South Dakota.

Carlos Escobar Miranda was returned from Watertown, S.D., on Sunday and is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, authorities said.

A 27-year-old Fairfax woman accused Miranda of detaining her against her will and inappropriately touching her on March 25, 2007, authorities said.

She waited until June 26, 2007, to report the incident because she was afraid, police said.

Miranda was charged with abduction and sexual battery. Because he couldn't be located in the area, his name was put into a nationwide database on wanted persons.

Miranda was arrested on June 25, 2008, in Watertown. He waived extradition and Watertown police released him to the custody of city of Fairfax police.
