D.C. Police Shoot, Kill Knife-Wielding Man

WASHINGTON -- Police shot and killed a man Friday night in Northeast Washington's troubled Trinidad neighborhood.The shooting happened in the 1600 block of Trinidad Avenue, an area that has seen a rise in violence this year and has been the focus of increased police patrols.Officers were called to the street about 9:15 p.m. Friday by neighbors reporting a fight between a husband and wife. The husband, residents said, was seen running down the street with a knife, police said.
As officers spoke with the man's wife, he called and threatened to kill her, police said. Officers got on the phone with the man, who told them he was behind the building.At some point, the man lunged at officers from a stairwell, brandishing a knife, police said. Officers fired, killing the man, police said.Police did not release the man's identity, but said he was in his 50s.
