LEXINGTON PARK, Md. -- A St. Mary's County sheriff's deputy is under investigation after an altercation in Lexington Park on Tuesday.

Deputies responded to the off-duty deputy's calls for help just before 7 p.m. near Route 235 and Mattapany.

Shane Richard Weasenforth, 25, was arrested and charged with assaulting the deputy.

But now investigators are examining the officer's conduct.

The deputy has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an investigation by the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Bureau of Professional Responsibilities and the St. Mary's County State's Attorney's Office.
