HERNDON, Va. -- Two Herndon brothers have been charged with stealing from church collection boxes after a TV viewer tipped off investigators, Fairfax County police said.John Andrews, 52, and Gregory Andrews, 48, are accused of taking money from donation boxes at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax on April 25.Surveillance camera footage shows two men blessing themselves, walking past the pews and heading toward the donation boxes.
About an hour after the footage aired on News4 and WJLA-TV on April 30, a citizen called investigators with information, police said.The citizen called investigators again on Thursday morning with the suspects' exact location, and they were arrested in Herndon.John Andrews was taken into custody and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was charged with petit larceny, destruction of property and possession of burglarious tools. Bond was set at $3,000.Gregory Andrews was taken into custody on unrelated charges and transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.Warrants charging Gregory Andrews with petit larceny, destruction of property and possession of burglarious tool were obtained by City of Fairfax Police and transmitted to Loudoun County authorities for service.
