Police: Woman Invented Story Of Rape In Front Of Infant Daughter

POSTED: 6:54 pm EDT April 28, 2008
UPDATED: 9:01 am EDT April 29, 2008

An 18-year-old woman who said she was abducted from outside a Springfield shopping center and then raped in front of her 3-month-old daughter now faces a misdemeanor charge of filing a false police report.

Christina Arotoma-Quispe told police that at about 8 p.m. on Thursday, she was carrying her daughter in a car seat outside Commerce Plaza when she was approached by a man with a handgun. She said the man forced her to walk a few blocks to the 6200 block of Dana Avenue where, she said, he threatened the baby and raped her.

Now, police say Arotoma-Quispe made the story up.

She is in custody at the Fairfax County Jail.
