WASHINGTON -- Children at area Catholic schools gathered in gymnasiums and auditoriums to watch the pope celebrate Mass right in their own back yard.Students at St. Ann's Academy in Northwest watched Thursday morning as Pope Benedict XVI delivered his message of hope at Nationals Park."It was pretty cool," said student Will Morris.
Many said they wished they could see the pope in person, but this was the next best thing.
"I found it really interesting, I mean being able to see the pope," said student Nissa Campos. "It would be nicer in person, but this was pretty good."Several said they were touched by what the pontiff had to say, especially in reaching out to the next generation of Catholics.Sister Petra had a front-row seat at St. Ann's. For her, this was close enough. She said watching Mass surrounded by young people made the experience even more special."I have loved every bit of it, because I love this Holy Father," she said. "I think he's wonderful. He's perfect."
