WASHINGTON -- Police in D.C. investigated a double shooting in the northeastern part of the city Tuesday night. The shooting happened in broad daylight on Lincoln Road Northeast, just blocks from the scene of a deadly shooting on North Capitol Street on Monday.Just after 5:30 p.m. at the height of the evening rush, the call went out to Metropolitan police that shots had been fired near the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue and Lincoln Road Northeast.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital as police began combing the crime scene. Police indicated that numerous shots were fired dangerously close to nearby row houses.Police were in this same neighborhood on Monday for another shooting. They said they will look into whether the two shootings were related."We're, of course, going to investigate that," Assistant Chief Diane Groomes said.Neighborhood residents said they see a correlation to violent times 20 years ago, when drug wars made violence like this a more regular occurrence in some parts of the city"It looks like a repeat of the late 80s," Mike Townsend said.Residents said it looked like history was repeating itself.
