Riots ravaged D.C. on the day King was assassinated. King had been in Washington just four days earlier, when he delivered the last Sunday sermon of his life at the Washington Cathedral, where Friday's regular noon service was devoted to his message and his legacy.

Richard Lischer preached in what was part of a week of commemoration of King's message.Students in Prince George's County participated in several events in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Friday.Students at G. James Gholson Middle School participated in a "march on Washington" at FedEx Field Friday morning. They also viewed a presentation on the life, work and death of King.
