WASHINGTON -- The lobby at D.C. Superior Court is closed after someone apparently jumped from an upper level in the courthouse to the floor of the atrium.Court spokeswoman Leah Gurowitz said it appears a man in his 50s jumped from the fourth floor of the courthouse and landed on the first floor.D.C. police and rescue crews were called at about 3:30 p.m. and began CPR. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, News4's Jackie Bensen reported.
Police said it appears to be a suicide, but it is still under investigation. Officers said they observed the man calmly remove his coat and jump.Gurowitz said the lobby is closed and considered a crime scene. Court is still in session, but workers and visitors must use an alternate entrance.
Police said the man was not at the court for a case of his own, but they couldn't say whether he was a witness in a trial or was at court because of a trial involving a friend of family member.
