WASHINGTON -- Zoo officials are inviting the public to help name a baby kiwi chick that hatched on March 7.The public can vote online for one of three Maori names for the North Island brown kiwi chick, which is a boy.The Maori are the native people of New Zealand. The North Island brown species of kiwi is the country's national bird.
The possible names are:
- Koa (KHO ah): happy, jubilant
- Titi (TEE tee): ray of light
- Hiwa (HEE wah): cheerful, alert
