The District has received a $20 million federal grant to build mixed-income housing in Ward 8.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development grant will help fund 336 units of housing at the site of the former Sheridan Terrace housing complex, District leaders announced on Tuesday.

The Sheridan Terrace public housing complex was demolished in 1997.

The new housing will include 70 stacked townhouse units, 110 family townhouses, 56 manor homes and a 100-unit family and senior apartment, city officials said.

Former Sheridan Terrace residents will be given preference in renting and buying the new units.

The District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) is leading the project with its development partner, the William C. Smith Cos.
