UPDATED: 5:29 pm EDT March 25, 2008

A minister has been accused of sexually abusing a female youth choir member at a Gaithersburg church.

Police said Timothy Chun-Chock Mann, 47, engaged in inappropriate sexual acts with a girl while he was a minister of music at the First Baptist Church at 200 West Diamond Ave.

The alleged abuse began in December 1992, when the victim was 14 years old, and continued until the summer of 1996, police said.

The alleged incidents occurred mainly in Mann's office at the church, police said.

Mann joined the church in December 1991.

The alleged victim, who is now 29 years old, was interviewed by detectives in December 2007.

Mann, who currently lives in Hoover, Ala., and most recently worked as a choir director in Birmingham, has been charged with third-degree sex offense and child abuse. He is no longer employed as a choir director.

Mann turned himself in to Montgomery County Police on March 20 and was released on $100,000 bond.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 240-773-5400. Callers may remain anonymous.
