High School Teacher Accused Of Soliciting Minor Online

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Police on Wednesday arrested a Chantilly High School teacher and coach who they accuse of soliciting a minor on the Web.Matthew Edward McGuire, 29, of Alexandria, has been charged with attempted indecent liberties with a minor and use of a computer to solicit sex with a minor.
Detectives said they began investigating McGuire's online activities several months ago.Police said McGuire made contact with an undercover detective who he believed to be a juvenile and engaged in sexually explicit communications that resulted in the charges against him.McGuire taught Spanish and coached track at the Fairfax County high school, News4's John Friess reported. The school sent a letter to parents on Thursday regarding the arrest, Friess reported.McGuire was originally booked at the Arlington County Detention Facility on $5,000 bond, but the bond was revoked, Friess reported.Authorities said a search warrant was served on McGuire's Alexandria home, and several pieces of evidence were collected."It's really a heinous crime, and we really take it seriously and are being very aggressive in pursuing it," said John Lisle of the Arlington County Police Department.Investigators said they didn't know McGuire's identity or occupation until they subpoenaed his Internet information. When they discovered McGuire was a teacher, they moved quickly to make the arrest, Friess reported.Police are investigating whether McGuire had inappropriate contact with other children.
