WASHINGTON -- The D.C. area is getting what experts hope is the first substantial rain in weeks, but experts said it's not enough to reverse a five-month drought.Meterologist Tom Kierein said the rainy weather will continue off and on until the weekend.
But experts said that even if there are showers for the next few days, the region will still have a substantial deficit in annual rainfall. The total at Reagan National Airport is down by 10.46 inches for the year, and water use restrictions remain in effect in many areas. The director of the Maryland Forest Service, Steven Koehn, said it will probably take all winter to recover. The experts said the region may not know the full impact of the drought until next spring.
