Widow Appeals To Killer Year After Lawyer's Death

Man Stabbed To Death In Friend's Townhouse

One year ago, lawyer Robert Wone was murdered in Northwest, and on Monday his widow, Kathy Wone, made an appeal to the conscience of the killer.

At a press conference attended by dozens who knew Robert Wone, his widow spoke directly to his killer.

"Having a murder on your conscious is no small load to carry as you try to live, I imagine, as normal a life as possible," she said.

On Aug. 2, 2006, D.C. police were called to a million-dollar townhouse in the 1500 block of Swann Street just east of Dupont Circle. In a second-floor bedroom, they found 32-year-old Robert Wone, the chief counsel for Radio Free Asia, dead from three stab wounds to his chest.

Also in the home were homeowner Joseph Price; his domestic partner, Victor Zaborsky; and their roommate, Dylan Ward. Investigators said the three implied an intruder had murdered Robert Wone, a law school friend of Price who was spending the night. But crime scene investigators found no sign of forced entry and determined the murder weapon came from the knife set in the kitchen.

"For those in 1509 Swann St., where Robert was killed, you need to truly ask yourselves -- truly, truly ask yourselves -- 'Have I provided police with all the information that might be relevant to the investigation of this crime?'" said former D.C. U.S. Attorney Eric Holder, who represents Kathy Wone.

"It's simply unfair to these three men for anyone to make an allegation that they have not been cooperative in this investigation," said David Schertler, a former top D.C. homicide prosecutor who represents Ward. "The night that this occurred, those three men spent an excess of 25 hours with homicide detectives."

A recent news article claimed police initially said a neighbor saw an intruder enter through the home's back door. D.C. police said they did not make that statement.
