Police Locate Vehicle Of Interest In Fatal Hit-And-Run

GREENBELT, Md. -- Montgomery County police said they have found a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle from a fatal hit-and-run from last week.At about 9:30 p.m. on July 31, 17-year-old Esia Lopez was walking from a McDonald's restaurant in Derwood when he was struck and killed by a silver, newer-model, four-door BMW 5 Series car while crossing the northbound lanes of Redland Road, police said. Lopez was not in the crosswalk.Witnesses told police that the driver initially stopped and then fled. The car was last seen traveling east on Muncaster Mill Road. Police said the driver is believed to be a white man.
On Friday, a vehicle matching the description witnesses gave of the vehicle from the hit-and-run was found in office complex parking lot in Greenbelt, police said. The vehicle had damage consistent with a pedestrian collision, police said.The driver of the vehicle has not been located.Anyone with information about the case should call police at 301-279-8000 at night or 301-840-2435 during the day.
