HERNDON, Va. -- Fairfax County police are investigating a man who was trying to join the volunteer auxiliary police force, News4's Jackie Bensen reported.Police said the man took the required polygraph test and during the course of that test admitted he had sexually molested a 6-year-old girl he baby-sat.
The child investigation division was contacted May 16.Police interviewed the child's parents, who confirmed that the man often baby-sat for the child.A search warrant obtained by News4 said the man had successfully completed previous stages of the volunteer process and had even been given some police department equipment, including an identification badge.Police said the man was notified that he would no longer be able to be in the volunteer program and on May 17, he turned in his equipment except for his ID card. While executing the search warrant on his home, police confiscated the ID badge and a department-issued flashlight holder. Police also seized a digital camera, computers, VHS tapes and a magazine entitled "Live Young Girls," Bensen reported.Police confirmed the ID badge would have only allowed the man access to the department's training academy. The man faces theft charges for failing to return the police ID badge, Bensen reported.
