Mitchellville Man Arrested After Police Chase

POSTED: 6:34 am EST February 28, 2007
UPDATED: 7:56 pm EST February 28, 2007

A man was arrested after leading police on a chase from Baltimore County to Central Avenue near Addison Road.

Baltimore County police said they tried to stop a car just after 5 a.m. Wednesday on the outer loop of the Baltimore Beltway near Security Boulevard. The chase began after police ran the tag on the car and learned the tags had been reported stolen. Later police said the car belonged to a Mitchellville man, but the tags did not belong to that car.

Maryland State Police joined the pursuit, which was being followed by WBAL-TV's helicopter, as it traveled down Interstate 95 to the inner loop of the Capital Beltway. The car and police left the Capital Beltway on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, moved to New York Avenue, then returned to the Capital Beltway, where it hit a pickup truck and a Maryland State police cruiser.

The front of the car being chased was damaged, and the hood buckled from the collision on the Beltway.

After exiting at Central Avenue, the chase finally ended across from the Addison Road Metro Station on Central Avenue when the car ran onto the sidewalk and into a utility pole at about 6:30 a.m.

Officers quickly took the driver, 30-year-old Terrence Anthony Brooks, into custody.

"He could have chosen to stop anytime he chose to," said Maryland State Police 1st Sgt. Russ Newell. "This was entirely up to him. He could have pulled over, stopped, gotten out of the vehicle at any point. Chose not to do that."

Brooks is charged with numerous criminal and traffic-related charges, including first-degree assault on police officers, malicious destruction of property, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, and driving with a suspended license.
