Customers can call ahead to stores like Macy's, Saks and Bloomingdale's and provide store employees with their size and style to receive customized fashion advice.

Shopper Brian Roach said he knows first-hand that he's getting no-cost help finding a gift for his wife in Bloomingdale's in Chevy Chase.

Bloomingdale's is known for its posh apparel. Personal shoppers know what's hot and what's not.

Shoppers give them the budget and a list of preferences and they go to work without pinching the pocketbook.

Personal shoppers will even assemble selections for customers to choose from before they arrive at the store.

They can also assist with holiday shopping, coming up with gift ideas based on recipient and price range.

Andre Spearman said he has worked the racks of Neiman Marcus at Mazza Gallerie for 25 years. He's a professional personal shopper.

Stores offer the service for free, but most advise calling ahead to make an appointment.

Anyone willing to pay for a personal shopper can get out of the department store. Becky Briggs owns Our Gift Biz in Rockville. She said she will find whatever anyone is looking for anywhere in the country.
