About Meningitis
Meningitis is an infection and inflammation of the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.Bacterial meningitis generally occurs when bacteria from an infection in one part of the body travel through the bloodstream to the brain and spinal cord. It can strike suddenly, usually with a high fever, severe headache and vomiting.
Symptoms may also include a stiff neck, sleepiness or sensitivity to light. It's important to get immediate medical treatment for anyone with such symptoms. Bacterial meningitis can progress quickly and can cause disability or death.
