There's a new way to get rid of cellulite, and cosmetic surgeons say they're seeing more requests for the procedure.

The procedure is called mesotherapy and both men and women are having it done.

Doctors say for many patients, mesotherapy is a better way to get rid of unsightly dimples and saddle bags.

"I didn't really wear any shorts. I wore capris. With the capris, you really can't see the upper thighs," Janet, a mesotherapy patient, said.

"Men are very self conscious. I mean, of course, about their gut," said Patrick, another mesotherapy patient.

Doctors said mesotherapy involves a series of quick injections into the mesodermal, or middle layer of the skin.

The syringe is loaded with a cocktail made up of vitamins, supplements and various drugs.

Doctors said the combination attacks the cellulite beneath the skin, breaking down the fat.

In weeks, doctors say the body flushes the fat out of your system, getting you ready for a swimsuit in no time.

There's no scientific research to back it up, but many of the patients are very happy with the results.

"There's no surgery. You're back to work, like, 20 minutes later," mesotherapy patient John said.

Mesotherapy has been performed in Europe for years but is relatively new to the United States. It's so new, in fact, that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons said it is not endorsing the therapy until more scientific research is done.

Treatments can run anywhere from $300 to $500 a visit and most patients need between five and 15 visits to see results.
