There are no noticeable symptoms of prostate cancer while it is still in the early stages, which is why screening is so critical. When prostate cancer is caught in its earliest stages, the prognosis is excellent. In fact, nearly 100 percent of men diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer survive more than 5 years.

Why is prostate screening so important?
• Washington, DC has the highest mortality rate from prostate cancer in the nation.
• The rate of prostate cancer is twice as high in African American men as in white men.
• Men have a 1 in 6 risk of being diagnosed with invasive prostate cancer.

Who should get screened?
• Men 45 and older
• African American Men 40 and older
• Not to be used for a second opinion
