DC Green Fest Inspires Green Living
Festival Teaches Eco-Living On Several Fronts
Whether you're going green or you're already there, the Green Festival is a place of guidance and inspiration.Want to know more about green investing, solar panels or green cleaning? How about tasting vegetarian cuisine, reading eco-friendly books, or wearing cosmetics with a conscience? There is something for everyone.
Lee Wells was signing copies of her book series "The Gaia Girls." It's about girl action heroes who harness earth, wind, fire and water to save the planet from harm. "I had one review say it's Harry Potter meets The Sierra Club," said Wells.The Xeko game for kids introduces them to endangered species."Xeko takes kids on adventure around the world," said Mark Gross, Xeko spokesman. "They can explore different habitats, and learn about the different wild animals there, and the threats that face them while having a little fun."The Green Festival also featured jewelry that is more than an accessory. Paper to Pearls is a company for women in the Uganda refugee camps .They turn colored paper into beads that are sold through the organization "Voices for Global Change."Want to keep chemicals off your body? Terressentials is a Maryland company that makes bath and beauty products that are certified organic."We're trying to teach people about a new way to look at the products they're bringing into their home and rubbing into their bodies." said Diana Kaye with Terresentials.The green movement is catching on in the marketplace. This years festival was about 25 percent larger than last years.The movement seeks to expand eco-awareness on all fronts and as the green festival showed us, we have a growing world of choices.
