There's a new bride walking down the aisle these days.

She's one who wants to tread lightly on the Earth and make her wedding environmentally friendly.

And with the eco-movement going mainstream, there are dozens of ways to turn that white wedding green.

Wedding gowns can be made of hemp or bamboo. Rings can be made from recycled gold or purchased from a vintage jeweler. Invitations can be printed on recycled paper, or even more environmentally friendly, tree-free paper. The limo can be a hybrid.

"It's not about cutting back on your day and sacrificing your day," said Melissa Rowell. "It's about making smarter choices so your day doesn't make a huge impact on the environment."

Rowell and her fiancé Sam Huston planned their wedding from the earth up.

It comes naturally to Rowell. Her mother, Jean, is an environmental sciences teacher in Maryland.

They decided to have the wedding and reception at the same place to reduce gas mileage. Guests will carpool.

The food is coming from a nearby caterer that uses organic food whenever possible, and beer will be in kegs from a local brewery so no one uses bottles.

The table runner is dyed hemp, the candleholders were collected from thrift stores and the curtains came from Rowell's house.

Guests received streamlined invitations printed on recycled paper that detaches at the bottom and becomes a postcard they can mail back.

There are a growing number of Web sites to help brides plan their green weddings.

This year, Meghan Myers started Portovert, an online eco-wedding site to help steer brides to proper vendors, so they be as green as they want to be.

The green wedding is becoming such a trend that the soap opera "Days Of Our Lives" is doing one for its characters.

For Rowell and Huston and their 100 guests, it's about celebrating their love and celebrating the Earth by leaving no trace.

They said their goal is to make no more than one garbage bag full of trash at the end of their wedding.
