The Worx GT looks like a really versatile lawn and yard machine, and it says it adapts to the job so you don't have to. But does it really do that? Let's find out.Infomercial: “Introducing the Worx GT...”If the infomercial is correct, this is the perfect gardening tool.
The Worx GT is a battery-powered grass trimmer and lawn edger. It weighs only 7 pounds and goes anywhere in your yard, with no electric cords to untangle and no gasoline to mess with. What's more, infomercial hosts Robin Hartl and Van Potter can hardly wait to show you how well the Worx GT will work at your home.Infomerical: “There is no other tool that you can buy anywhere else that is more convenient to use or that will get the job better or easier than the Worxt-GT.”So we sent the Worx GT and its infomercial to Parker Brugge’s house. He was happy to try the battery-powered trimmer in place of his gas-powered one. The Worx GT cost us $99.99 plus $26.12 shipping. However, for that price, we're getting a machine that will make lawn work fast, accurate, and easy.“But... does it really do that?” asked Consumer Reporter Liz Crenshaw and Brugge.“So Parker, how does the Worx GT work? What do we do?” asked Crenshaw.“It's really simple. You just plug in this battery, you press this little button on the side, and you start going,” said Brugge. And go it does. The trimmer has an 18-volt battery that spins a braided line at 8,200 RPMs. Worx says the battery will cover a half-acre's worth of trimming and edging on one charge. And if it does die, the battery will recharge in only one hour. What's more, the device comes with what it claims are some unique features.“Yeah, there are a couple of really interesting features. If you're a little bit shorter than I am, you can adjust this,” said Brugge.“Oh, OK, so the whole item becomes shorter,” said Crenshaw.“Right,” said Brugge.“All right,” said Crenshaw.“The other thing you can do is, you can tilt it and use it as an edger. You just turn that, put your foot on, and it becomes an edger,” said Brugge.“Oh, you use those wheels,” said Crenshaw.“You use these wheels on the bottom,” said Brugge.Brugge says he has liked all the features of the Worx GT and is especially impressed by the battery life.“Well, I’'ve used it about five or six times without charging the battery at all,” said Brugge. In fact, Brugge says he can't find anything to complain about with the Worx GT.“So the Worx GT ... does it really do that?” asked Crenshaw.“It does do that. It does all the things that the infomercial says it does,” said Brugge.“And for $126 would you buy it?” asked Crenshaw.“I certainly would,” said Brugge.
