Many of them are Internet sites with event organizers in the D.C. area. Most of the events do cost money.

8Minutedating
8Minutedating.com is a nationally run Web site that has organizers in the D.C. area setting up events for singles at places like Caribbean Breeze in Arlington. The site guarantees you’ll meet someone you want to see again or the next event is on them. Like many of the other speeding dating sites, 8minutedating.com breaks things down into age groups. http://www.8minutedating.com/

HurryDate

Real Speed Date
Real Speed Date says it offers D.C. singles the opportunity to meet great people, cruise the City’s hotspots and relax and have fun. People participating in Real Speed Date get the chance to go on as many as 10 dates in one night. However, their Web site claims to offer singles quality as well as quantity.

SINGLES ORGANIZATIONS

There are plenty of singles organizations throughout the D.C. area that provide people of all ages and backgrounds a chance to attend planned events and meet other people.

Professionals in the City

Instead, the events are volunteer projects such as preparing meals for homebound AIDS patients and cleaning parks. The events are held across the District, Maryland and Virginia. In addition to volunteer projects, the group also offers a variety of social events like a bike ride, followed by dinner. http://singlevolunteers.org/dc/

ONLINE DATING

For those singles who want to know who they’re meeting when they leave their home there is always the option of online dating. On most of the sites you enter a profile and search other profiles for someone who you think may be compatible. Most of the sites include a picture of the person and provide the opportunity to chat via e-mail before you ever go out. Membership to most of the organizations does cost money.

eHarmony.com
eHarmony.com has what their Web site calls a “patented Compatibility Matching System.” The system aims to narrow the field of prospective dates from millions, to a small group of people who it believes could be a good match for you. To help find out what members are interested in, eHarmony has a 436-question relationship questionnaire. Eharmony.com claims a Fall 2005 Harris Interactive study showed that on average 90 eHarmony members get married every day. www.eharmony.com

Match.com
Match.com claims to be the world’s largest online, dating, relationship, singles and personal service with over eight million members. You can start by checking out the profiles of other members to see what the site is like and if there is anyone out there you think you’re compatible with. Next, you become a member and create a free profile. After creating the profile you can subscribe, start contacting other members and try and find a match.

Yahoo! Personals
One of the Internet’s biggest search engines is also a resource for one of the most popular personal online ad banks. Like Match.com, Yahoo! Personals offers singles the chance to check out profiles, create their own and then try and make a connection. Yahoo! Personals also offers features such as “winning profile tips” and quizzes that claim to teach you more about your dating personality.
